April 2008

April 8, 2008 - Ultralight Rod - Good Fishing

How's it going? The fishing has been darn solid.

We're catching snappers and snook right from the dock -- what that MEANS is, if you bother to paddle somewhere that actually has fish, you're in em'.

A big thanks to NOLES for lending me the ultra-tight, ultra-light rod he built. I caught almost all the fish in this report with that rod. It was the most sensitive rod I've ever used.

Snook self portrait. Don't get out of the boat. Your shoes get all wet!

I've never caught one of these prior. It's a whiting, right? Caught it right next to the intercostal. i was shocked.

Hippy shot of the dock.

Redfish and worm/minnow gulp. These are great because they always track straight. I wish they were a fatter and longer for the salt.

The best fishing pictures have no fish.

Hornetbear Jr. lands a darn nice trout.

Abstract wierdness.

I gotta admit that, the longer I fish, the more conscious I am about the ethics and conservation elements.
Today, I leave most fish in the water because they're more prone to survive. I pick up more trash.
The more you do something, the more critical you get about it.

Hippy, take it in. Shallow oyster bed, teaming with life and other stinky gook.

White jerkbait with a #3 or #4 worm hook is a great setup shallow. I've dropped the leader to #15 because the water is so clear.

They all look kinda the same but I'm still a sucker for a sunset.

Stay cool, friends.
