greetings fellow Florida fishermen! A Happy Holidays to you and yours. The fishing has been TOUGH! Cool blustery days and downright frigid mornings makes for some difficult fishing. I get out when I can and lots of time it's between high noon and 2:00 EST, a known fishing total suckfest. Fish HATE strong overhead lighting. You can see the leader. you can see the hook. You can see the kayak, canoe or yacht. The water is so clear you can see the crabs in the trap. You know it's going to be pretty tough fishing.
With that said, totally awesome winter report ensues. Sit back and enjoy.
Got out in Sarasota for the best sunset of the year.
Fished Myakka with my son. Beautiful place but.... freshwater fishing is lame compared to snooks and reds on the flats
My buddy at Walts Fish Market taught me that sailcats taste pretty good, especially during a recession!
Check out sailcat fillets. Very similar to normal catfish.
Snappers don't usually bite lures.
These Cormorants taste kind of oily but my family really enjoyed this one on Thanksgiving day
This is Hal. He's a good fisherman. He's also kind of a goofball.
A sunset shot without a person.
No matter what... the end of the day is always compelling...
People talk down on castnets but I think they're my favorite kind of fishing. You always catch something in a castnet and the act of casting it is learned and truly beautiful. It's the foundation of Florida fishing in my opinion.
Birds. Fishing. You can't keep them apart.
A final sunset. this is with my old camera. Good pictures are what you stand in front of.
Amazing sunset. This guy is catching a ladyfish. The funny part is he was so consumed with catching ladyfish that he truly didn't even notice the sunset. Fishing is awesome.
